Video shows fire on ocean surface in Gulf of Mexico after gas leak

MEXICO CITY — Mexico’s state-owned oil firm mentioned Friday it suffered a rupture in an undersea fuel pipeline within the Gulf of Mexico, sending flames boiling to the floor within the Gulf waters.

Petroleos Mexicanos mentioned it had dispatched fireplace management boats to pump extra water over the flames.

Pemex, as the corporate is thought, mentioned no person was injured within the incident within the offshore Ku-Maloob-Zaap area.

The leak close to daybreak Friday occurred about 150 yards from a drilling platform. The corporate mentioned it had introduced the fuel leak underneath management about 5 hours later.

However the accident gave rise to the unusual sight of roiling balls of flame boiling up from under the floor of the Gulf of Mexico.

It was unclear how a lot environmental harm the fuel leak and oceanic fireball had prompted.

Miyoko Sakashita, oceans program director for the Middle for Organic Range, wrote that “the horrifying footage of the Gulf of Mexico is displaying the world that offshore drilling is soiled and harmful.”

Sakashita added, “These horrific accidents will proceed to hurt the Gulf if we do not finish offshore drilling as soon as and for all.”
